First Time

This is my first post from my new apartment. I hooked up my wireless router myself. I'm so technologically skilled. Everyone should be extremely jealous of my S-K-I-L-L-Z. You want to be me, I know. I get that a lot. So what have I been doing? Enjoying the fact that the world isn't really ending, of course.

I stopped in Twinville, USA to see the girls and Haymaker. It was the best send off I could have had. I SAW ZEBRAS. They had teddy bear ears, and they were so neat! The girls and Haymaker and I ate Tootie Pie, made fun of people on Facebook, and laughed until we couldn't breathe. Kenz had to get her teeth cleaned, so of course the three of us got into trouble while she was gone. We used an interesting online makeover site to beautify ourselves in the same manner of those we ridiculed. Kenz had the bad luck of being left normal since she went to the dentist. Kendra, Haymaker and I all had our makeup and hair done. Yes. Haymaker. Surprising? No way.

Parting with my good friends (after the girls' confusing directions to get onto the interstate), I flew to Kyle's. I thought I was going to get stuck in rush hour traffic, so I popped in RHCP and jammed. BTW, Murphy and Ben are the best friends ever for making incredible road trip CDs that my mother hated. It was exactly what I wanted. God's hand was upon my vehicle because I beat Kyle back to his apartment and escaped traffic. We relaxed and ate the goodies that the girls and Haymaker made for me (DELICIOUS Y'ALL). Kyle treated me to Chama Gaucha, and hot damn it was good.

Mom and Dad picked me up in the morning, and after stopping to see Dustin at DTC, we spent 5 hours (really more like 2 but it felt forever) driving through Houston. It. Took. Forever. Houston friends- y'all need to convince me to like your city. We cruised on through, stopping at the only Sonic that doesn't have a picnic table. I was highly disappointed that it was pitch black so we couldn't see the engorged river as we drove over the bridges. I can't even imagine how the people feel who are being evacuated because their farmland is being flooded to spare the cities. I can hardly process that. I've never experienced anything like it.

We arrived safely and fought the parents of graduates for parking spots at the hotel. I was able to get my apartment key early, so we moved into my summer home. It's a nice little apartment, perfect for me. Saturday, we went to one of the local plantation mansions. I WANT TO BE A SOUTHERN BELLE. I want to make iced tea and mint juleps, wear sundresses, and lounge on the porch. I want a southern gentleman to spoil me and shower me with sweet nothings in a southern drawl. I'll take a Rhett Butler. Thanks!

Today we went to the art and science museum, which heavily contrasts with my new southern belle mentality but appealed to my nerd heart. We watched a movie in the planetarium about volcanic activity on the ocean floor and the life that survives in the extreme conditions at those locations. We saw galleries about Egypt, intricate Hollywood costumes, and the solar system.

Tomorrow I will battle morning traffic to commute to work. I can't wait.
